AF-KLM, Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, bmi, Germanwings, SAS, Aer Lingus, Vueling, Finnair and Monarch.
Air France-KLM carried 6.24m passengers last month, 5.3% fewer than in September 2008.
Traffic in revenue passenger kilometres decreased by 3.7% on capacity in available seat kilometres down 4.9%, resulting in a one percentage point improvement in load factor to 81.9%.
Lufthansa Passenger Airlines – including the mainline, Lufthansa Regional and Lufthansa Italia – saw numbers decline by 2% to 5.07m, with traffic falling 2.8%. Capacity was cut by 3.6%, lifting load factor by 0.7pp to 80.3%.
Lufthansa’s wholly owned SWISS subsidiary reported year-on-year growth of 2.3% to 1.21m September passengers. Traffic dropped by 4.8% and capacity by 5.9%, which helped boost loads by 1pp to 83.8%.
The Austrian Airlines Group – taken over by Lufthansa earlier this year – carried 969.9k passengers last month, down 7.8%. Traffic and capacity both fell 10.3%, leaving load factor unchanged at 77.9%.
bmi, another recent Lufthansa acquisition, carried 691k passengers, with an average load factor of 75.3%. Comparatives for September 2008 were not given.
Passenger numbers at Germanwings, owned by Eurowings in which Lufthansa holds a 49% stake, declined by 9% to 684.6k, while load factor slipped 1.7pp to 82.8%.
Elsewhere the SAS Group of airlines – mainline Scandinavian, Wideroe and Blue1 – carried 2.23m passengers last month, down 14.7%. Traffic and capacity were both 17.7% lower than in September 2008, leaving load factor flat at 70.6%.
Aer Lingus reported growth of 4.1% to 960k passengers, although traffic declined by 4.5%. However, capacity was cut by 7.6%, which helped boost load factor by 2.5pp to 77.5%.
Spanish budget carrier Vueling saw September passenger numbers jump by 90.8% to 955.7k, following its merger with clickair. Traffic was up 84.2% and capacity 68.3%, lifting load factor by 6.6pp to 76.9%.
Finnair carried 570.2k scheduled passengers in September, down 10.9% year-on-year. Traffic fell by 10.6% and capacity by 10.5%, depressing load factor by 0.1pp to 76.4%.
Finally, Monarch did not provide passenger numbers but said its scheduled load factor increased by 2.3pp year-on-year to 88.6% in September.
The airline carried 67% more passengers on its Cyprus flights last month than a year ago, while Lanzarote was up 61%, Tenerife 12% and Menorca 39%.
