Delta Air Lines carried 10.87m passengers last month, 4.6% fewer than in February 2009.
Traffic in revenue passenger miles declined by 2.6% on capacity in available seat miles down 6.1%, which helped boost load factor by 2.8 percentage points to 77.1%. Atlantic loads jumped 7.4pp to 68.5%.
Passenger numbers at American Airlines fell by 4.1% to 5.96m, with traffic declining by 2.2%. Capacity was 4.2% lower than a year ago, lifting load factor by 1.5pp to 75.5%. Atlantic loads were 2.1pp ahead year-on-year at 64.8%.
Southwest Airlines reported a 2.9% decrease in revenue passengers to 5.92m last month. Traffic fell 2.3% on capacity down 8.7%, resulting in a 4.8pp improvement in load factor to 73.9%.
United Airlines’ February passengers numbers remained near flat (-0.4%) at 5.66m, while traffic grew by 2.1%. Capacity was cut by 5.3%, pushing load factor up 5.7pp to 78.7%. Atlantic loads were 6.2pp higher at 71.6%.
Continental Airlines saw passenger numbers slip 0.3% to 4.33m, although traffic was up 3.3%. Capacity decreased by 3.8%, which boosted load factor by 5.2pp to 77.7%. Transatlantic loads improved by 10.3pp to 72.7%.
February passengers at US Airways fell 6.1% to 3.61m. Traffic dropped 4.7% on capacity down 5.3%, lifting load factor by 0.4pp to 77.6%. Atlantic loads were near flat (+0.3pp) at 60.3%.
