The system, called ‘veedesk’, allows a business to talk to customers, using real-time live video, while they are browsing online.
An online assistant, or ‘vee-assistant’, appears on a user’s screen, gives product advice and helps the customer fill in forms.
Vee stands for video engaging enterprise.
Entrepreneur Andy Henshaw, who runs vee24, which developed veedesk, claims that, for every 100 travel website visitors, only three will end up completing an online enquiry form or booking.
And on average, only one in five people who start to complete an enquiry or booking actually go on to submit it.
Henshaw said: ‘Can you imagine a high street travel agent with no staff to serve customers?
‘That’s exactly what we have online, across all industries, not just travel.
‘Travel websites attract millions of holidaymakers every year, making the internet the most significant channel to find and communicate with potential customers, yet conversion rates for online travel agents range between just 1%-5%.
‘People like to buy from people and vee-business is now bringing this important functionality to the internet.
‘Vee-technology will allow the travel industry to use live video to talk to online customers in real time, and provide them with face-to-face personal customer service.’
