Up to 400 jobs are going at Thomson Travel Group (TTG)’s head offices as German parent Preussag shakes up the UK business. Senior execs David Maloney, Peter Buckingham and Mike Moore are among those on the way out.
Thomson Holidays will be merged with the distribution businesses under the new holding company TUI UK. It will be based in London although a presence will be maintained in Leamington Spa. Some group functions will be merged into the new structure while others will be run from Hanover.
The 400 jobs represent around 28% of the office workforce.
As well as the departures of Maloney, Buckingham and Moore, some big names benefit from the shake up.
Charles Gurassa, currently chief exec of TTG, becomes executive chairman of TUI Northern Europe. He also takes on the exec chairman role at Preussag Airlines.
Gurassa will be supported by
Peter Rothwell, who becomes chief exec for TUI Northern Europe from his current role as COO for TTG.
Shaun Powell, MD for Thomson Holidays, takes up a new challenge as MD of TUI Spain, overseeing all outbound tour ops, retailing, car rental, conferences and Ultramar Express. He will report to Ralf Korsten and is basically in charge of Spain for the group.
