Chris Mottershead has been named as managing director for TUI UK, the holding company for Thomson Holidays, Lunn Poly and Thomson Travel Group’s other tour operations and distribution businesses.
He leaves his current position as president and CEO of Airtours’ North American Leisure Group.
He will start work ‘as soon as he is free to do so,’ according to TUI.
TUI UK was launched last month as part of a major shake up instigated by German parent Preussag which has seen the UK distribution businesses and tour operations combined under seven business units, each with its own head. Up to 400 office jobs will go as part of the reshuffle.
Mottershead will link up with and report to former Airtours colleague Peter Rothwell. Rothwell was promoted in the reshuffle, becoming chief executive for TUI Northern Europe. He will take on Mottershead’s TUI UK role until he joins.
