Aquis doubles its portfolio

31 Mar 2009
Upmarket Eastern Mediterranean hotel group Aquis has acquired four more properties, three in Crete and one in Corfu, taking its portfolio to eight.

The Aquis Corfu Holiday Palace, a five-star hotel in Kanoni, is already open. Close to Corfu Town and near the island’s major archaeological sites, it has 256 rooms, most with a sea view, and an easily accessible private beach.

The Aquis Silva Beach, formerly the Silva Maris, a four-star all-inclusive resort hotel in Hersonissos, Crete, opens on 24 April.

The Aquis Zorbas Village, a four-star family-friendly beachfront property, will open in Anissaras, Crete also on 24 April. The low-rise complex offers 219 bungalows and two luxury suites.

Finally the Aquis Bella Beach, formerly the Bella Maris, is a five-star hotel in Anissaras with 312 rooms and suites, opening on 1 May.

Aquis marketing manager, Rania Deimezi said: ‘In comparison with the western Mediterranean – especially Spain - which already has developed hotel chains, hotel groups and franchise brands opportunities in the last decade, the eastern Mediterranean has been left behind in comparison, this is why we launched Aquis Hotels and Resorts.’

Backed by international funds and capital investments, the company was created last summer with the objective of developing a chain of upmarket hotels in Greece, Cyprus, Turkey and Egypt.

John Kent, founder of Med Hotels and chief executive of youtravel.com, Andreas Vasiliou, managing director of Amathus UK, and David Howells, executive chairman of Western & Oriental, are all on the Aquis board.

The group’s other properties are the Aquis Pelekas Beach Hotel (opening 15 April); the Aquis Gordios Beach Hotel (16 April) and the Aquis Sandy Beach Resort (27 April), all in Corfu; and the Aquis Marine Resort and Waterpark (6 May) in Kos.
