BA announces further European cuts

01 Jul 2009
British Airways is reducing frequencies on a number of European services from Heathrow and Gatwick.

From the start of the winter timetable on 25 October, it will cut flights from Heathrow to: Brussels from seven to six per day; Paris Charles de Gaulle from ten to nine; Nice and Berlin from six to five; Edinburgh from 11 to ten.

Gatwick-Rome services, meanwhile, will be reduced from two to one a day, although daily frequencies to the Italian capital from Heathrow will rise from five to six.

BA will also increase services from Heathrow to Warsaw and Istanbul from twice to thrice daily.

Richard Tams, head of UK & Ireland sales, said the increases came in response to demand, while the additional flights to Warsaw have been timed to make it easier for passengers to connect to BA’s long-haul operations.

The extra Warsaw flight will arrive at Heathrow at 9.25am, enabling passengers to connect through T5 onto the long-haul route network, where departures are largely during the morning.

Separately, the BBC reports BA has called in conciliation service ACAS to facilitate future meetings with its two main unions, Unite and the GMB.

The move follows failure to reach agreement on pay talks by the airline’s 30 June deadline.
