Expanding coach operator recruits for call centre

13 Oct 2009
Glenton Holidays saw bookings more than double over the peak summer months thanks to rising demand for coach holidays and domestic trips.

The rapid expansion means the Glasgow-based escorted tours specialist is opening its own call centre and recruiting about 20 new members of staff.

The new call centre will open on 1 November, headed by reservations manager Rita Murray.

She has been with Glenton Holidays for over a year and previously had a similar role with Zoom Airlines, which went into administration in September 2008.

Glenton Holidays expects to see bookings for the whole of 2009 rise by at least 35% thanks to increased demand, 17 additional departure points in Scotland and a new range of tours from North East England.

Steve Turbill, commercial director, said: ‘Despite a slow start to 2009, sales have just got better and better as the year rolled on.

‘We’ve been seeing people booking holidays closer to departure, perhaps because they’re careful with their budgets, but they’ve been determined to take a holiday despite the gloomy news.’

Two new cruise brochures, and a summer 2010 programme due out later this year, are also expected to help the firm continue its expansion plans.

A sister brand to over-55s specialist Grand UK Holidays, Glenton took away more than 30,000 holidaymakers in 2008 and aims to carry over 40,000 in 2009.

As well as coach tours, it sells holidays by air, self-drive tours and cruises to holidaymakers in Scotland and North East England, and operates the ‘Good Companions’ programme for solo travellers.
