Aquis was set up in August by Youtravel.com chief executive, John Kent, who is also its main investor.
The Sheikh succeeds David Howells, chairman of Western & Oriental, who becomes Aquis vice chairman.
To date Aquis has acquired three hotels in Corfu and one apiece in Kos and Crete for its ‘high standard all-inclusive’ concept. It plans to expand to Turkey, Egypt and Cyprus, adding 30 properties over the next three years.
Other board members include Amathus UK managing director Andreas Vasiliou, Professor Dimitrios Buhalis, deputy director of the International Centre for Tourism and Hospitality Research at Bournemouth University, and solicitor Dr Nicholas Kouladis, a law lecturer at the University of Hertfordshire.
