TripAdvisor, the hotel and destination review site owned by Expedia, has recorded its 20 millionth posting – a leap of 5m since April.
The site has also seen a huge rise in its number of registered members this year, from 5m in January to the current 9m, underlining the growth of social media in travel.
TripAdvisor has launched domains in India and Japan, meaning that it now operates in eight countries outside the US.
Founder and chief executive Steve Kaufer said: ‘We continue to see tremendous growth opportunities for our business, both with the addition of new features on our sites and continued international expansion.’
TripAdvisor now gets more than half its 25m unique visitors a month from outside the US and has another 12 travel brands, including cruise critic.com and seatguru.com, which bring another 32m unique monthly visitors.
It recently launched More than Footprints, an initiative to donate $1m to five travel-related charities chosen by online voters.
